This work took shape around two ideas offered by Andrea Solya, the director of the UIUC Women's Glee Club. The theme was resiliency, and "Strength" by Ella Wheeler Wilcox seemed to be a perfect fit for that theme, as she continually asks who the strong are, and we realize that it is us. The rest came from Dr. Solya's desire to have a rhythmic piece, as too many composers think that "women's voices can only sing legato and high." I said, "You got it", and the rest is history.
