Come out and walk... (2017)
The inspiration for this work came entirely from Edward Shanks' A Night-Piece, where the music simply becomes a depiction. In my eyes, Shanks vividly paints the imagery of a couple walking through this night scene, speaking of all the sights, sounds, and feelings as they take this peaceful, yet slightly tense walk as the "last few drops of light drain silently out of the cloudy blue".
This work was premiered by the Harpur Chorale of Binghamton University on May 4, 2017, conducted by Jennifer Chudacik and accompanied by Michael McAndrew.
